It is beyond a scintilla of a doubt, like a political party, the news media in the free world, particularly in America, has become polarized partisan endeavor.

The highly slanted coverage of news by cable news media in America, led by Fox having the most viewership followed by CNN, one favoring Republicans and the other Democrats, is the embodiment of the disaster of mercenary journalism.

Iranians, in Iran and in diaspora, are quite familiar with mercenary journalism and journalists.

Fortunately there are still few journalists left who have refused to prostitute their profession, but cards are stacked against them.

Musician and political activist Arash Sobhani and the sidelined VOA Persian Service Siamak Dehghanpour are among those who have sounded alarm about the dire situation of disappearing honest journalist being replaced by mercenary ones:

“Today the media cartel, in a much more pronounced way, is playing the role (treasonous) people think the intelligentsia played against the nation in 1979.

In these decisive days, the few honest journalists left have to stand up to the mafia, defend the honor of their profession and interests of the people…. the burden on the journalist has never been so heavy.”

Airtight sanctions - which includes oil - a la against the despicable South Africa apartheid, works. U.S. lawmakers get to it.
