I started writing the encyclopedia of Persian satire 35 years ago. Prior to my exile, I published two volumes of the book in Iran. Later, I came to realize that this work deserves a comprehensive study, devoid of any religious, political, or sexual censorship. By studying the works of 609 prominent satirists dating back to pre-Islamic Persia, this 16-volume book will allow for a socio-political reading of Persian history that would otherwise be impossible. I was fortunate to pick up the project during my fellowship at UCI Samuel Jordan Center for Persian Studies and Culture back in 2014. Since then, I have finalized 7 volumes, but without institutional support, I am unable to devote my full concentration on this unfinished project. Such a rigorous process requires my full-time attention that given my age, health, and deteriorating eyesight cannot be delayed. Back in Iran, when I was imprisoned for my political activism, the most important thing that gave me hope and motivation was to finish this project. To finish this project, all I ask is one year of your support.
