Ruptly: Tehran football fan Sahar has prepared her trip to the 2018 Russia World Cup to the tiniest of details, amid an active ban on women attending men’s sports events in Iran.

Footage from the Iranian capital shows Sahar visiting two sport shops to buy jerseys and a colourful array of accessories ranging from Iranian flags to stadium horns.

"The most important thing is we are women and we are banned to go to the stadium in our country," Sahar said from her home. "So one of the reasons - the main reason, actually - that I want to go to the World Cup in Russia is to support my team and be as equal as men."

Iran has allowed women to attend men's sports events on select occasions, most notably an Iran-USA volleyball match in 2015.

In Iran's first match of the group stages, the team won 1-0 against Morocco.

Iran is in Group B, where they are scheduled to play against Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is held in Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018.
