In the book "Roots" all the African blacks pray in Islamic fashion and continuously praise ALLAH, NOT God. The movie of the book "Roots" made in America and became T.V serial in early 1980's. Funny part is that O.J. Simpson, who committed double murder by killing his white wife and her acquaintance, portraited as a good guy ...lol..
Unfortunately, our intellectuals were NOT aware or were not able to see negative side of those books which was pushing our country toward dust bin. After so many years, we still see the quote from Frantz Fanon on this site. Such a retarded quote is unacceptable. Books of Fanon and his buddy Shariati played major role in destruction of Iran. That kind of mindset keep criminal mullahs on power longer. It seems we have to educate our educated people first.
Here is footage of the movie "Roots", which was the best selling book in Iranian market. Please look at minutes 2.82 , 3.08 , 4.27 who uses Islamic versus, minute 5.48 said la illah ilalah in Arabic , means there is no God except Allah. Also, minutes 5.27 The black guy do Sujdeh. which is touching ground and kissing soul with his face. They also said how bad and devil were white Europeans with Christian faith.
Nice blog but over simplification in my opinion. Way too much weight is given to Shariati who at the most entertained small portion of radical students.
Our problems are deep rooted, sociological, cultural, and structural and it takes time, real education and experience to fix all these.

Don't you think this is influence and aspiration of Fanon, Haley and Shariati books ? Khaminie doesn't know that Malcolm X was arrested for burglary and served time in prison for that. He doesn't know Malcolm X became Marxist Leninst by reading their books inside jail. Khaminie doesn't know Malcolm X didn't use Islam as political view. Khamini didn't know Malcolm X suffered crued racism in American society and hated white skin Europeans because of that. This is one of Malcolm X statement that proves my point of view.

The honest answer is I don't know. I don't know what book(s) Khameni read in his life? what influenced him in the past? what influences him now ? At most we are speculating. I just don't think charlatan shariati had a massive impact on large group of people much less millions of people. Even Khoemini was not a known figure to the vast majority unitl U.S and Western European media made him big super star through 7/24/365 coverage day in day out.
I do agree that black struggle in U.S or Europe, slavery and even direct colonialism has nothing to do with us and for that matter stuff that goes in South America as well but hey that does not stop lefty Iranians from worshipping Che, castro and still celeberating 1917 bolshevik revoultion!

Individuals are NOT important. "Line of thinking" is important. In the video, Khaminie is following line of thinking which became fashinable in late 70's and it let to the Islamic revolution. The line of thinking which propagate black history should be bashed and devaluated. That is the problem. As long as we associate ourselves with Africans and third wotld countries, it blocks us from progress and modernization. If you want to soar like eagle, you should fly with eagle.
After 40 year misery we still see our country people qoate from black writers without knowing that line of thinking hurt us more than anything else. It is NOT easy to overthrow the government which is based on ideology. Only way out of misery is to fight with that ideology or line of thinking.
